What Handover Halls is
Handover Halls is a noticeboard. Students who want to leave a halls contract early can list their room, and other students can send them an enquiry. We are not a letting agent, a landlord or a party to any contract. We don't arrange viewings, take deposits or payments, or guarantee that a takeover will happen.
Handover Halls is run by an individual (sole trader) based outside the UK. By using the site you agree to these terms.
Every takeover goes through the provider
- The halls provider decides whether to approve a replacement tenant, under its own rules and fees.
- Never pay rent, a deposit or any fee to another student. Payments only ever go to the halls provider.
- Check the provider's current rules yourself. The rules shown on this site may be out of date.
Who can use the site
You must be 18 or over.
If you list a room
- It must be your own room, under a contract in your name.
- Your listing must be accurate, including rent, dates and any deal you offer.
- Only list a full contract takeover through the provider's official process. Sublets and private arrangements are not allowed.
- Don't include anything discriminatory. Genuine provider rules (such as a single-gender flat) are fine.
- Remove your listing once the room is taken.
- You keep ownership of your text and photos. By posting them, you let us show them on the site while your listing is up, and in posts promoting your room.
- Only upload photos you took yourself or have permission to use.
If you send an enquiry
Be honest about who you are and whether you meet the provider's eligibility rules.
Things that aren't allowed
- Scams, fake listings, or asking anyone for money directly.
- Spam, harassment, or using enquiry details for anything other than the takeover.
- Copying listings from other websites without the poster's permission.
We may remove any listing or block any account that breaks these rules, without notice.
Reporting a problem
Use "Report this listing" on any room page. We review reports and remove listings that break these rules.
Our responsibility
We provide the site as it is. We aren't responsible for the accuracy of listings, the outcome of any takeover, or any loss from dealings between users, except where the law says we can't exclude that responsibility.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site develops. We'll change the date at the top of this page, and the version shown here is the one that applies.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
